Jean-Paul van Toor

Jean Paul is a tax specialist at Pereira. He combines his experience in the maritime sector with his tax expertise to tackle complex issues as a tax specialist at Pereira. His unique background gives him the ability to navigate clients through tax challenges as a ‘pilot’, aimed at optimizing their businesses.

‘A tax specialist is at the center of the world. Politics, (inter)national market and personal interests. As a result, the playing field is constantly subject to change. This requires sharp insight and knowledge of the subject. My previous career in the maritime sector inspires me in this. This also involves working in a world where major interests are at stake. A captain plays a major role in this, but in special waters he is assisted by a specialist, the pilot. I see my work as the work of a pilot. With sharp insight, knowledge of the business and a great adaptability, I help clients with complex issues so that they can further their business. If I were to describe myself in three words, they would be: pragmatic, creative and decisive.’

Educational background: Bachelor and Master in tax law, University Leiden

Previous positions: from 2016 to 2019 I studied industrial design at Delft University of Technology. During my time in Leiden I participated in the indirect taxes focus where I followed additional courses at the University of Amsterdam, Maastricht University and Tilburg University. In addition, I participated in the International Tax Moot Court competition at KU Leuven in 2023 and obtained my civil effect.
